Career Resources

Believe it or not, you can make a decent living writing, editing, managing social media, and more for activist organizations and other nonprofits. And those jobs are easy to find—just search for keywords such as “social justice writer” on the bigger job sites, and you’ll find thousands of listings. Below, we’ve gathered some of the top listing sites for activist careers, major job sites with sections devoted to this work, and tips for pursuing your dream career: Changing the world with your words.

3 Quick Tips

01.

Study before you apply. If you have your eye on a particular career path (say, campaign management) research the job requirements and polish your skills with online training before applying.

02.

Explore more to expand your knowledge. Spend time reading up on any organizations you want to apply to before submitting your resume so that you’re well-informed and ready to answer (and ask!) questions during the interview.

03.

Lace up your sneaks. Nonprofits like social service, political, and activist organizations, can be hectic and fast-paced workplaces. Be ready to hit the ground (and the keyboard) running on day one, and to learn on the job.
